When planning or hosting an event, one of the key elements to consider is whether you should hire security for your event. Security doesn’t have to be reserved specifically for big festivals and concerts only. If you’re holding any type of event, no matter the size, from a wedding to a party or a conference, then keeping guests and staff safe should be one of your top priorities.
There are a number of ways you can ensure security at your event. By having good security measures in place, whether that be hired event security or not, it can help reduce risks, keep people safe and prevent damage to the venue.
Depending on the type of event you’re running, there will be different levels of security to consider. Here are 4 steps you can take to better ensure security and safety at your event.
4 Steps You Can Take to Ensure Security at Your Event:
1. Crowd Management
Putting together a crowd management plan or basic event safety plan in place, particularly if your event is going to attract a crowd, is integral for handling large groups of people.
You want to make sure that there are enough staff and toilets to limit queues, as well as dispersing refreshment stations evenly throughout the venue to prevent attendees congregating in small areas.
When planning event safety, it is also important to make sure you plan an evacuation procedure, and adequate signs to stop attendees getting lost, feeling confused or frustrated.
2. Type of event and level of security needed
Depending on the type of event you’re holding, there will be different levels of security that you need to consider. For example, if you’re hosting a gig or concert then you’ll likely need more visible security presence and checks, compared with a conference that will require fewer stringent checks and measures.
3. Hire a security guard
For larger events or events that may require a visible security presence, then consider hiring a security guard. Depending on the crowd you’re expecting, or the number of people attending then the number of security guards needed will vary. Also, it very much depends on the event and type of crowd attending too; a business event will be a very different atmosphere and crowd compared to a sports event or concert.
Generally, it is fine to hire security guards that simply guard entrances, and keep an eye on guests.
4. Bag Check Stations
At registration or upon entry into your venue, it may be a good idea to set up a bag checking station. This will reduce the risk of people bringing unwanted items into your event such as weapons, alcohol, food, drink, etc.
Why is Event Security Important?
No matter whether your event is big or small, event security is important and should be considered in your event planning. It helps
